Learn about what we can do for you at black.af/services. Working on a series of posts explaining services we provide and employ.

hey there!

wheels over here are beginning to spin down which means we have more vacancy for you! if you have a project/product you're working on software-wise or want to work on something digital; hit us up!

even if we (@jalcine) doesn't have the set, we know people who do and will freely refer y'all!

I made some tweaks to Fortress. Mostly styling but now all of the rel-me checking happens on the fly. By default; it’ll be inactive so Fortress returns pretty quickly. I should have that fixed up with it trickling in correct values (which will stay correct, btw) over time. And to ensure that this isn’t a fully JavaScript dependent site; I’ll have it present a notice about it refreshing every 3 - 10 (adjustable) seconds to check if the verification’s completed.

Distributed sign in that'd help facilitate nomadic identities on the Web by way of #Fortress :)

Had a little hiccup handling some of the logic for silos (GitHub and Patreon) so the release of that capability will be delayed a few days. However, has experimental support for being a hosted OAuth2 provider already with documentation on the home page.

This means soon, you can use even a static Website to log into other sites like quill.p3k.io or monocle.p3k.io!

Also, by Friday, we plan to have support for silos like GitHub, Twitter, LinkedIn, Patreon and Keybase. After that, work on allowing people to use sites that point to sites like Pleroma, Pixelfed or Mastodon and sites will be under-way!

Hey there!

We've made some updates to ! Though not completed, the sign-in flow is _almost_ there - should be done by end of this week. Also we've settled on a logo for , the first of the projects to get one!

Happy Sunday!

so tar(1) is single cpu bound but surprisingly quick when you skip the compression and use `xz -vfkT 0 ...` that's more like it!

I'm working on a daily tool that'll show how much money @blackaf earns (income, grants, incoming donations) and spends (outgoing donations, expenses, bills) to continue the provable trend that independent work can be sustainable _and_ that F/LOSS can be supported in this fashion.

A bit of a status update on work this month:

* is getting a face-lift of its detection of h-cards so it'll be more accurate.
* is entering a heavy bug-fixing mode and its CI system is being locked down.
* The landing site is being re-built to highlight Patreon contributors (been punting on this for some time)

I'll be updating the Patreon followers over at patreon.com/jackyalcine with more updates (that'll be the place until a more solid bridge is in place).

Finally working on my #IndieAuth solution called Fortress! It'll live under the @blackaf collection of services. There's a few things I'm hoping to have it support #Fediverse services that expose OAuth2 provider logic!

I'm expecting that in 2019 interest in self-hosting will increase because between government regulation and misguided faith in AI I don't see the problems which Facebook and Twitter have being easily resolved by any silver bullet solution.

Often after people have used the fediverse for a while they want to try hosting their own instance.

In the UK context I expect that in February/March Twitter will become an unbearable stream of brexit fights and screaming centrists. These days you only have to utter the wrong AI trigger phrase and your account gets suspended, so I think there will be lots of people swearing at particular politicians and then having their accounts suspended and showing up in the fediverse that way.

I'll try to keep the brexit stuff to a minimum, and behind CW. It's bound to be mostly boring Westminster village obsessions. If a revolutionary situation emerges though that could be worth reporting upon. Things like an attempted coup are maybe possible.

Happy New Year, fediverse!

Here’s to working towards more freedom, justice, and equality in 2019. It’s not going to get any easier. It’s probably going to get harder. All that matters is we keep chipping away at the problem and working on the solutions. Every little thing we do, whether it’s raising awareness or reducing harm or creating ethical alternatives… it all matters.

Heck, the fact I can write this on the fediverse is reason enough to be hopeful.

Lots of love to you all :indieHeart:

Good PST morning !

Last night, I pushed out koype.net/ - a splash page to garner interest from those who've been following @jalcine's progress on the project thus far. The goal is to make a hub to make it simple for people to start using Koype; as simple as signing up for a silo (indieweb.org/silo) but with one caveat - from day ONE; you own ALL of your data (indieweb.org/ownyourdata).

Sign up for release info at koype.net/!

Going to spend the rest of today finishing up some proposals for @blackaf and then working on mockups for a bunch of projects.

Trying to avoid touching code; need to give my brain a reset.
