I trusted our government in handling the epidemic. Then they reopened schools even though there were only a couple of weeks left for summer vacations. Many students and staff are now under quarantine.

How can you accomplish this? 🤦‍♂️

“In the goodness of time, as all books become fully digital, everyone of them will accumulate the equivalent of blue underlined passages as each literary reference is networked within that book out to all other books. [...] Books will seep out of their bindings and weave themselves together into one large meta book, the universal library”

AWS Large Scale Incident going on. Ubuntu patch messed up, kernel panic in new AWS Ubuntu boxes.

Anyone else facing this?

I passed my AWS Solutions Architect pro exam :)

Any other AWS cert holders on this tootbox?

My Twitter->Mastodon relay project now supports more use-cases, thanks to some awesome feature requests.

1. Relay multiple Twitter accounts to the same Mastodon.
2. Relay multiple Twitter accounts to many Mastodons.

"The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair."

Just moved to Notion for managing my brain. Merged my old docs, Dropbox Papers, vim docs, browser bookmarks, etc.

Most importantly, copied some of @smays selected quotes, with URLs and sources this time :)

Loving the database feature of Notion, really easy to categorize and tag things. I've never committed to a notes tool this much before. Hope Notion survives and continues to improve :)

Hmm. I wonder if converting JS entirely into a compiled language would have any positive effect on web development.

The idealist thought is that suddenly the 400MiB node_modules folder would now take 5 hours to compile, so developers cut their dependencies and write simpler and more efficient code, ultimately improving the end-user experience.

The realist however remembers that these *are* JavaScript developers, so instead they'll just start claiming we all need £1000 overclocked CPUs.

Apparently, this is called a "Crown Flash" and it looks like a dancing light beam behind the cloud. But it's a natural phenomenon

Got some time today to work on passion project.

My relay now supports env args and the Docker image is a lot lighter (thanks Alpine). Not bad for a day's work.

People Who Are Not Bored

The Art of Lydia Ricci

"I’ve been collecting scraps for more than 25 years. Gathered from crowded junk drawers, dusty supply closets, and the occasional neighborhood trash can. I clear out a space in my messy studio and transform this ephemera into tiny tributes to times past."

I read "Bloodchild" by Octavia E. Butler and wanted to share it.

I don't want to spoil it, but it's an amazing sci-fi short-story worth the hour you'll spend reading it.

Clearview AI, the dystopian face recognition company that claims to have amassed a database of billions of photos, signed contracts with hundreds of law enforcement agencies, and shopped its app around to the rich and powerful, has extensive links to the far right, according to a Huffington Post investigation. In fact, one of its associates claimed to have been working on a face recognition product explicitly designed to be useful for mass deportations.
