I feel like I read a blog post once that said something like
- Junior developers build without following patterns
- Mid-level developers know patterns and follow them like rules/laws
- Senior developers know *why* a pattern exists, when to use it and when not to, and are able to exercise judgment
It may not have been about patterns; maybe practices or tools.
Has anyone seen a blog post specifically about this?
just got reminded of my favourite Cisco Field Notice where using certain snagless ethernet cables would reset certain switches because the protective boot would press down on a button that will do exactly that

One of Canada’s largest ISP’s had a nationwide outage yesterday. My ISP 😅 No home internet or cell service. Debit transactions and ATMs were not working.
It felt surreal to be totally disconnected from the world – I had to use the car’s radio to find out what’s up.
Anyway! I’m glad the instance did okay in my absence.
It is apparently now available on Mac Ports, which would have been a lot easier than compiling from source. At least, I remember it being difficult.
What's wild to me is that LaserDisc didn't digitize the video signal - it was FM-encoded composite NTSC or PAL, with a PCM digital audio signal slapped on top.
Wait, why do you even need a raspberry pi for this? I could just run this on my home server 🤔
Raspberry Pi OS does not make it easy to ssh into on the first boot. I gave up and set up an old monitor and keyboard.
