@ashfurrow I've been going through Elasticsearch upgrades for 3-4 years and I don't think I ever lost the indices, but I haven't been keeping everything either.

@stux did you also have to upgrade to ElasticSearch 7? I've found some guides online, it doesn't look too difficult.
@ashfurrow correct! Just add the 7.x repo, apt upgrade and done!
(It could be booting ES7 can get stuck, that case just quick Google for extra line in service file)
eh whatever. worst case scenario is I have to re-build the search index.
