A good deal of the blame here falls on Asus for installing a bunch of bloatware, but then, who set up the OEM deals to make that possible? Microsoft.
@ashfurrow one day asus will be like "we've done it! we've found incredible! we can all go home now!"
one blessed day
@ashfurrow Nothing obvious - I've tried attaching a screenshot of what I'm seeing but it's also looking blank to me. So avatars are non-existent, and I can't see images except the blurred preview... aaand it's back.
This was happening on both my phone (Fedilab) and my desktop browser. Seems to be working again now!
@ashfurrow It started again. I checked the network tab, and requests to cdn.mastodon.technology are getting 0B responses

@ashfurrow The so-called "AZERTY" keyboard is chief and foremost among the misdemeanours of the French.
@gudenau not my mother in law apparently. Neither my family nor my partner’s are at all computer savvy.
@ashfurrow Wasn't there a UEFI that would install bloat when you installed Windows? That sounds familiar to me.
@ashfurrow Wuahaha… Right on the spot. Exactly THAT Laptop (well, an ASUS one) was what convinced me to never again buy a) an ASUS device and b) a computer with a pre-installed Windows.
Must have been almost 20y ago. That laptop was then running with Linux (I couldn't stand that bloat it shipped with, and de-bloating didn't go well) – and all my devices since then were obtained "blank" and initialized with Linux. Never regretted *that* choice…
