I find it quite funny that Parler users are discussing how to attack AWS data centres, as if the data centres would be as easy to breach as the Capitol building 🙄

uspol, violence

@ashfurrow aren't the actual physical locations of the data centres kept secret?

uspol, violence

@trickster yeah but I’m sure they leave a paper trail. hard to consume that much power/bandwidth without being found. not that I hope this happens! but everyone in the startup world knew where the data centre in Toronto was...

@ashfurrow
The fact that Datacenter security is better then that of the Capitol is wild, and also true I fear...

uspol, violence

@kingannoy @ashfurrow Seeing how that happened, it has to be true. Either that or security were definitely in on it.

uspol, violence

@ashfurrow

it might be naive to suppose they wouldn't have inside help again

uspol, violence

@deejoe that’s true, though, I feel private security will be less sympathetic to fascists than cops. and proabably not at a high-level.

@ashfurrow @deejoe consider the recent Nashville bombing. That's about as effective an attack as folks like this could muster. I've worked in datacenters before and there's no good way for an average Joe to get inside one without getting flagged by multiple layers on security.

uspol, violence

@ashfurrow @deejoe that Nashville guy probably knew that and had to settle for making a bomb that could penetrate layers of brick and concrete and hope that he could park close enough to actually do damage. It was a dumb plan from start to finish. He disrupted the regional internet for what... a couple days at most? Just stupid.

uspol, violence

@ashfurrow @deejoe now if we look at AWS, *the* largest cloud services provider in the world, you can see how silly an attack on their infrastructure would be. They have massive datacenters all over the world and define their products with redundancy as a first class feature. If any one of their regions or availability zones had any sort of issue, they'd just reroute traffic to any one of their other giant datacenters.

uspol, violence

@ashfurrow @deejoe anyway sorry for all the words. These guys are just so stupid.

@ashfurrow in a related thought I always find it fascinating how quick "free speech" platforms get *really* upset when you use that free speech on their app to discuss something they don't like. Then they're not so keen on freedom of expression 😂

uspol, violence

@ashfurrow What is Parker and why would they want to do this?

uspol, violence

@Lofenyy they’re an extremist alt-right social network who is mad that all the tech vendors are ditching them, following the siege on the US Capitol last week
