I recently learned that the brits call “bell peppers” “capsicums” (as in, cap-seh-cums) and I could not be more disgusted

@ashfurrow wtf I've literally never heard anyone who calls them that and I've lived here all my life

re: food, british

@ashfurrow we just call them peppers

food, british

@ashfurrow aussies do this too.

I don't get what's weird about it?

food, british

@ashfurrow in all of my life being a brit, have I ever heard it be called that word beginning with C

food, british

@ashfurrow they.... Barely have any though!!!

food, british

@ashfurrow I have sometimes seen them labelled as such pre-packaged in the supermarket, but I have never heard anyone actually call them that.

@ashfurrow
"What caused spiciness?" "Capsaicin."
"Then let us name this not-remotely-spicy thing laughingly known as a pepper... CAPSICUM!"

Because humans are the worst.

@ashfurrow Ummmm ... not sure that's right, is it? I'm a Brit, a foodie and kind of a professional wordsmith, and I've never heard anyone use that word. We just call them "peppers".

@hedders I only know what I hear on podcasts 🙃
