good morning to #eggboy [cw ec]
good morning #wednesdaywisdom
good morning, remember that time I got to feed a baby kangaroo? 🦘😍
@ashfurrow lol at the microsd adapter
@danielle I don't even know why I own this, I think for my Raspberry Pi?
@ashfurrow are those your top picks?
@aru if I had my pick, I'd take the purple one
@_0x00_ dunno! Just seemed funny to me.
@ashfurrow it looks like the bigger bells are for specific kinds of trouble.
@ashfurrow Maybe smaller has a higher pitch and that is easier to hear or more attention-grabbing, compared with the others?
@ashfurrow Makes the highest pitched sound.
@ashfurrow Did or does the place fab PC boards.
@AskChip it's the 24th story of an old NYC Chinatown high-rise, so anything's possible!
@ashfurrow I worked at a fab plant many years ago and the ovens were entire rooms where you slide long racks of boards into the bake the epoxy mask after the screen room put it on. Wall mounted oven thermostat outside the doors. When they opened those doors the heat just rolled out.
@ashfurrow Maybe it controls the air conditioning?
@ashfurrow hey, someone at least thought to label the small box. I definitely have one in my house that is unlabled
@ashfurrow lol why did you make your dog a nsfw post XD
@nonetrix the eye contact
@ashfurrow oh no think of children some one please
@nonetrix it is a common courtesy here on the fediverse, and as an administrator, I feel obliged to make users feel as welcome as possible.
There’s no need for sarcasm; if you want to know more about why people mark eye contact photos with content warnings, all you have to do is ask.
@ashfurrow Try this one:
Base 6 is the best counting base, so the superior approach would be to create a new set of units based on the same principles as the metric system, but optimised for heximal, and then to use those.
@OTheB seems like base6 is further from what humans use than base10, but to each their own I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@ashfurrow Base 6 is great. Has lots of factors, doesn't suffer from the nasty recurring decimals that dozenal does, and every prime number above 3 ends with either a 1 or a 5, which is a nice pattern.
It's also barely less dense than decimal, so you won't end up with huge long numbers.
Something to think about if you ever find yourself thinking "hmm, I really want to learn a new counting base, but I'm not sure which" :)
@ashfurrow Can't actually think of one reason nor a single instance where or why fahrenheit would be better.
@ashfurrow It's not even a good argument. You can't feel a couple degrees F but you probably can feel a couple degrees C.
@ashfurrow It's only good for a couple very specific things. 🤷
@ashfurrow of course not! Same for Celsius. Kelvin is The True Way to measure temperature.
@jacek oh now that’s just silly 😜
@ashfurrow millions of physicists can't be wrong! 😉
@dasyatidprime oh my god, the ultimate centrist measuring scale
@ashfurrow yes! This is a step in the right direction. Us Brits just need to get you guys to start adding the letter ‘u’ back in to words like ‘colour’. Final step is to replace ‘z’ with ‘s’, like ‘categorise’. 😁
@kev also ‘z’ is pronounced “zed”
@ashfurrow YES! So much yes! As someone who works for a large American company, I’m faced with this daily! 🤣🤣🤣
@kev the only benefit is that the alphabet song rhymes better in American English, but it’s just not worth it!
@ashfurrow I really wish it would be switched. Sadly some people think that metric is a scam.
@ashfurrow But see, it works: they get (slightly) more space. 2" = 5.08cm. Those funny measures fool you…
@IzzyOnDroid well this _is_ just a unit test 😉 there’s no calculation here, just picking between one of two strings from the API.
@ashfurrow So no comparison, OK. Still, I always wonder how they convert between inches, yards and miles in their heads – or summing up multiple stages of a route. There must be a trick (/me asks the search engine) – uhm? "1760 yards is a mile because there are 3 feet in a yard and 5280 is the important figure here." OK, I'm lost…
@ashfurrow Je ne sais pas qu'est ce que faux.
@mdhughes aye, but F is mostly only used in conversation. Siri, my AC, my devices are all set to °C.
