phew, cleared the moderation queue.
I don't mean to generalize, but when I get a report of a spammer, nine times out of ten it's from a protonmail email address. I'm sure it's a fine mail host but geez.
@ashfurrow Any large federated system. If we're lucky, that curse will come to the fediverse. :-)
@ashfurrow have you tried reasoning with them?
do you have SPF and DKIM in place?
@hirojin Aye – it usually clears up in a few days. Their docs (and Fastmail's) are kind of dodgy about it. They don't want spammers circumventing their checks, which I get. But it sets up a system of conflicting incentives.
@ashfurrow as long as they are rejecting and not dumping them silently it's at least within the protocol and can be worked with.
@RandomDamage yeah I get a failure response at least :)
@ashfurrow allow lists and deny lists?
@mkelly yup yup yup
@ashfurrow
Lol! I have a Protonmail account and have reported at least once in the past
@ashfurrow but but ... I'm on protonmail :(
I actually think they're ok. Are you saying they're basically the next Yahoo?
@jrss no! I specifically didn't want to generalize :)
@ashfurrow yeah I got that, no worries :)
And like, most of the failed email deliveries from mastodon.technology are from protonmail too (with fastmail close behind)
It's so cool that we've got like a distributed system of universal communication (email) but if you're sending from a domain that's *not* on an industry whitelist (why does it have to be white?) then you get blocked silently. No spam folder, just... blocked. Cool cool cool.
