The web isn't simply getting worse. It's serving capitalist optimization functions. Every trend towards an objectively worse user experience (more paywalls, more scams, more surveillance, more spammy notifications, etc) is the direct result of someone trying to extract more money from you or from someone else. It will inevitably continue.
The upside is that the contrast with alternatives that aren't driven by that optimization function is increasingly stark and obvious.
@somarasu I believe in America the largest factor is abysmal inequality in access to education caused by deliberate economic theft & legislation funneling black bodies into prisons, where the nation can once again exploit their labor at virtually no cost
@somarasu bc almost universally across predominantly "white" nations, black skin is associated with inferiority, an unforgivable lie perpetuated by centuries of codified, racist abuse and oppression, and even the most well intentioned manager/organization is imbued with this bias whether or not they admit it. Many don't admit it and many don't have good intentions. When black people do manage to find a way in, they are tokenized and pushed out by discomfort or blatant discrimination
