New Blog Post: Mastodon to Pleroma — 2 — Customizing My Instance

"Now that I have a Pleroma instance up and running with an account, it's time to make that instance my own through backend and frontend customizations."

** As this is a Mastodon to Pleroma account change, followers will NOT auto-migrate. You should go follow me on Pleroma at and unfollow my account. **

I'm opposed to automatic updates on principle because software is written by people. The same people who are sleep-deprived, underpaid, overworked, and make mistakes (and then might not correct the mistakes).

I don't want the automatic mistakes of the day on my system.

I don't want unwanted software automatically added to my system.

Automatic updates are good at enabling both of these things to happen, and since no one talks about them, I'm going to assume they happen.

You know, I just realized that I'd rather build a community and friends who are interested, who are real than just chasing views on Youtube or Twitter.

Real people. It's nice.

Thanks for the video on the Fediverse on Peertube, @ChrisWere!

It gives me more heart and passion on my work and not care about views or likes now.

Ukrainian railway (UZ): we will not allow to buy all places you want to because of COVID-19, just three in a block.

Also UZ: we will sell all the others in two weeks, so you will sit with total strangers and won't be able to isolate from each other at all.

Hello :) Just showing off Mastodon. And talking about how it is federated. And how that’s different to single-tenant web (Small Web).

Galaxy Watch seems pretty neat thing 🤔

I like it's design and OS, though it has one disatvantage compared to Apple offering: contactless payment does not work in Ukraine.

Programmers PSA - Learn to justify your effort

You've only added two lines - why did that take two days!

* The issue was reported with a vague description of how to recreate it.
* The reported issue was related to functionality, I'm not familiar with.
* I took the time to investigate the real cause of the issue, not just looking at the symptoms.
* I investigated if there were other ways of getting to the same problem, not just the reported reproduction steps.
* I took the time to verify if there were other parts of the code that might be affected in similar ways.
* When I found the cause of the issue, I looked to find the simplest way of fixing it that would have minimal risk of introducing side-effects.
* I tested the change thoroughly and verified that it addressed the problem for all the different code paths that were affected.

It might seem a reasonable question, but it makes some terrible assumptions:
lines of code = effort
lines of code = value
all lines of code are equal
None of those are true.

If you emjoy watching videos by @luke, follow his peertube instance I've just mentioned 😁

I am going on vacation from this Friday till next week. I think there will be some updates on 😉

I guess it bears repeating. Bluntly this time.

If you're going to send a follow request, please do something with your Mastodon/Pleroma/Whatever profile. No activity on your instance account looks fishy. 🐟 I'm just going to cancel it outright if that's the case.

I know I'm not the only one on the Fediverse that feels this way.

Have learnt about . Seems like a pretty curious way of organizing written thoughts 🤔

Just opened an after a several-months pause. I like the direction it is moving: it became a bit more pleasant-looking, and is still really fast.
