My reasoning for choosing Jekyll, a static site generator (SSG).
@adamsdesk Thanks, I was just thinking about this yesterday! https://mastodon.technology/@tvdl/105555655254583513
If I may ask, what do you use for self hosting, and why self-hosting over using for example GitHub pages?
@tvdl GitHub/GitLab Pages is a great idea feature and I have even used it for a website, https://steephillfood.ca. However this all depends upon your circumstance. For me self-hosting is best because it allows for control and not someone or some company to dictate what I can and can't do. No one is more invested in your best interests than you yourself. As well I want to be transparent to my viewers, the less hands/services I use the easier it is by removing unnecessary complexities that they may bring.
@tvdl Thanks for your question. You really have me thinking about this. I may write about this topic in greater detail, self-hosted vs. platforms might be of interest.
@adamsdesk Alright thanks! The two reasons I would choose GitHub Pages over self-hosting is 1) the money in case of using a remote host instead of a raspberry and 2) the convenience of not having to worry about setting things up. For me, however, self-hosting would be interesting just to learn about how to do it. Looking forward to your next blog posts!
