Yes! The new EP from La Inquisición arrived from lost merch the other day. Not only do I love the music but also the design. There are 4 tracks and each is named after a season. On the inside there is an image of a tree and as you pull the lyrics sheet out it also depicts how the tree is in that season. (Maybe I should just take a pic). Anyway it’s an amazing EP by one of my fav bands here in catalunya. #vinyl #EP #LaInquisición
I’d imagine along the lines of how much artists are paid when their music is streamed on Spotify? I didn’t have the chance to ask so I’m going to compile my list and contact the company for answers. Also, they mentioned people who will be signing to get their faces cloned are students and waiters - mostly young people. Is this because they assume this group of people won’t ask questions or be easier to get their data and exploit?
When it came time for questions I had lots! I started with asking if the people who had signed up had a say in what videos they can be used in. (Not that I would but if I agreed to have my face cloned I’d wanna be sure it’s only used in videos that align with my values and that I support!) Questions were being answered in order and mine was skipped over!! I was furious in the moment and thought it was very telling of the privacy and rights people have. I also wanted to know how much people are paid.
I joined a session yesterday ‘replacing cameras with code for the next generation of video communication’. The speaker told us that people had signed up to have their faces cloned to create avatars that would then be held on their database. Companies can then choose an avatar for whatever their video needs are. Examples given were online teachers, online event presenters and tutorial videos. It’s ok though because if your face is chosen you get paid.

If a website is multilingual shouldn’t the privacy policy also be available in those languages? And that goes for other policies and terms and conditions that may be on the site too. #privacy #privacyRights
I've only just found out that @rysiek is running a free online 'Information Security Starts in Your Head' session tomorrow. I can't make it because of prior commitments, but I hope others can!

“Mastercard’s biometric checkout system will provide customers facial recognition-based payments, by linking the biometric authentication systems of a number of third-party companies with Mastercard’s own payment systems.”

Is anyone here attending the event? Let me know if you are and what talks you're looking forward to. #WomenTechGlobalConference #WTGC2022
A reminder that Mastodon and the Fediverse do NOT use cryptocurrency, blockchains, NFTs, tokens, coins, mining, web3 or anything like that.
Masto and the Fedi run on traditional servers and use a sustainable network federation model somewhat similar to e-mail (that's why Fediverse addresses look similar to e-mail addresses).
Also a reminder there are no venture capital firms or other investors either. No one owns the network, each server is independent. Masto and Fedi server running costs are paid by their owners, sometimes with donations from users.
No one is getting rich from the Fediverse, it is all volunteers with some getting donations and a few getting modest grants from foundations. Please remember this when you interact with admins or developers.
(There might be some individual users who post about cryptocurrency/blockchain, but the infrastructure this place runs on doesn't use it at all.)
Tl:dr - Decentralisation does NOT mean cryptocurrency/blockchain
