#LinkedIn new privacy policy 2:
"When you visit or leave our Services (including our plugins or cookies or similar technology on the sites of others), we receive the URL of both the site you came from and the one you go to next. We also get information about your IP address, proxy server, operating system, web browser and add-ons, device identifier and features, and/or ISP or your mobile carrier."
@bithive It's surprisingly (considering the Microsoft buyout) similar to the previous Privacy Policy... @Averly - I plan to dump #LinkedIn also. I've already dumped all other #Microsoft services, including their OS. At this point, I only have #Facebook because that's how I communicate with the most family. I am not following any pages or anything else. Just family and a handful of personal friends!
@bithive @Averly @Theophilus - Three years ago I began (with the help og my brother and daughter) to move the entire family + some friends to Diaspora. Hard work with the strange scepticism people have to anything not mainstream, but today it is well working with about 30-40 people posting privately.
@Katharsisdrill That's awesome, and I am extremely jealous. Your family isn't as stubborn as mine!!! I tried to get them on Diaspora, but it never took. I tried with Google+ with a bit more success, but only because at the time Googl+ profiles were required for YouTube accounts. As soon as that was lifted, they all ran back to Facebook.
@Theophilus - well, they were hard to get there, and I think that having help from my 13 year old daughter and my brother was very important. You have to put up some content they can look at.
In the beginning I simply made profiles, connected them to the other family members and just sendt them the login. Now people asks to join and I normally do the same for them, but by request.
Many still has Facebook profiles, but the family business is on Diaspora.
@Katharsisdrill Very nice. I may have to employ some cousins and my daughters to this end.
@Theophilus - one paranoid geek is a paranoid geek - add a couple of daughters and it makes you a determined family commando squad.
@Katharsisdrill ROFL. Is truth! Is complete truth.
@Katharsisdrill @Theophilus
how well does that work with the business aspect? In my region there are so many businesses and community groups which have become dependent on Farcebook for their main web presence, which I think is a shame (and also discourages me from visiting their "site" as I need to create custom filters on my adblocker to avoid being nagged to log in with an ID I do not have (*never* used FB)
I'm not sure. Diaspora might lack some functionality for certain things.
@Katharsisdrill #Mastodon does too, in all fairness. Though #Diaspora has had a lot more time to fix missing functionality and still hasn't...
Which ones? We need feedback ;)
I have tried to attend Loomio, and have proposed some ideas.
A way to manually sort the stream with different GUI queries.
There were demand for group functionality, that I proposed could be reached via a combination of aspect and a kind of supertag (that would collect the group stream)
I like to be able to edit in my post. It was very nice to be able to do that on Steemit.
But it seems you guys have more than enough to do.
@vfrmedia I'm not quite sure how businesses should handle things. I would think that because they are trying to reach a broad market, they would be best served on Twitter and Facebook, but I reject the notion that their websites should require logging in with either for full functionality. A web site isn't a social network, it's an information portal, and that's how it should behave.
@Theophilus I think birbsite does allow you to view stuff without being logged in; FB is more aggressive (you need to pick out the elements with the login box and block them with a customisable ad blocker and they are made difficult to locate unless you have some tech knowledge.
The only reason I bothered was to follow the website of a Malaysian animal rescue as curious about how many rescue cats might be part Asian wildcat (more than a few it seems) 🐈
@vfrmedia IMHO, having an icon to the Social Media site that is linked to the company page there is more than enough. If people are interested, they can click. End of story.
@vfrmedia Ignore my previous response. It looks like you're talking about the company page on the other social media sites, rather than my website. Sorry, no coffee yet...
@Katharsisdrill @bithive @Theophilus
That's awesome!
Love Diaspora.
And I especially like Ello's manifesto:
@Theophilus @bithive I only follow strangers because Radiohead said "I'm a creeeeeeeep!" But seriously all those profiles are almost all gone and not a single person noticed 🤷🏻♀️
