We conducted an experiment on pixelfed.social, disabling like counts on timelines.

The results are positive and suggest most users like the change or don't mind.

The experiment will become an opt-in feature for other instance admins to enable in a future release!

Maybe also try showing pre-defined steps like "10+", "25+", "50+" etc. as some kind of middleground?

Like is an interesting measurement of social interaction. It's exploited by content creators who are simply interested in revenue. (Likes per post equating to marketability of the influencer.)

At the same time, you may not feel engaged if you don't have an indicator of people actually seeing your posts and contents.

Perhaps a last viewed timestamp is possible? That seems like a lot of potential server load.
