#Spelling wisdom from IRC:
<an_dude> my favorite english spelling story is how printing was illegal in england so they had english books printed in the netherlands and the dutch were like "uhh my dude I'm pretty sure ghost has an H in it; here let me fix that for you" and they just got away with vandalizing a ton of english words!
<a_other_dude> and in the US printing was taxed by character so we dropped all the u's
Slack is a great productivity tool because I can grab a senior engineer, DM them a question, and while they spend 25 minutes typing and retyping and being terrified of what will happen when I get the answer I can switch to another task entirely.
The public Signal server code was finally updated... and it seems they were hiding it to hide the unpopular cryptocurrency thing they just announced? Wtf? https://community.signalusers.org/t/where-is-new-signal-server-code-why-not-share-signal/15068/129
It’s not just that blockchain is just plain stupid. It’s not even that Signal is choosing to tie itself to a specific blockchain currency. It’s that adding a cryptocurrency to an end-to-end encrypted app muddies the morality of the product, and invites all sorts of government investigative and regulatory meddling: by the IRS, the SEC, FinCEN, and probably the FBI."""

Like, mate, you sit in a comfy chair in an air conditioned office solving fun little puzzles all day, if you deserve eighty grand a year then the bloke who has to get up at dawn to empty my bins should be on at least half a mil.
Hi everyone, I have been in another instance on the fediverse for some time but I think that I will be more comfortable here, so I moved in.
I like to repair and assemble computers, then I install on them #GNULinux and give them away to family and friends.
Glad to be in the fediverse!

Re-binging "Silicon Valley" and being reminded of that time Facebook ran an ad comparing itself to chairs.
Please, let the internet never allow Facebook to live that down.
