Is there a core Mastodon UI/UX design team? How does the design of this thing get done? (Haha... I have questions and am posing them to the void. Yes, it’s probably not the best strategy. Assuming a high degree of universal listening-in is going on here.)

On gnusocial there isn't anything to stop particular servers being Twitterized. If I were so inclined (I'm not) I could insert commercial crap into my stream in exchange for sufficient remuneration.

Something like that was discussed in the Q&A of Eben Moglen's "Freedom in the Cloud" talk from 2010. At least if that situation happens there's a direct transaction between the advertiser and the server admin, cutting out the usual middlemen, like Google or Facebook.

Introduced mastodon to about 100 people just now. Wondering if any will jump in.

Hmm, so remote follows and local follows are different? When you click on someone's icon it goes to their local profile which has different toots and amout of follow(er)/(ing)s

How can people prove who they are on Mastodon? Is that even something "the community wants"?

@gideonro @Kirbstr Watching people tinker makes you realize how intelligent people are in ways that we might not be intelligent in, thereby creating a new appreciation for humanity, in my recent humble experience. I really like how you see this GR.

One of my *very* favorite things about the early days of a platform are all the early adopters kicking the tires and finding out little secrets here and there about the platform. I love doing this myself, and tend to really appreciate other people doing the same thing.

This is somewhat echoing @Kirbstr in her toot:

Well, after the explanation of many mastonauts, it seems to be that followbots are like small automatic spies that came from other instances to look for Tooters and share their toots on the federated timeline of their own instances. It means that federated timeline doesn't have all toots from all instances. As I read federateds gets populate after Tooters follow each other, and the "spies" help to small instances to feed their own federated. Apparently they are useful and necessary.

You'd think a content warning would hide attached media by default, but it looks like it only hides the text. Hmm....

@badger_ A delete is like a second message that is propagated to your followers/followers' servers. Network delays/failures can lead to malfunctions. But in the average case, deletes do propagate through federation.

Currently freaking out about the interesting possibilities of a federated system. :nerd:

no smartphone = no twitter, so here I am how're things
