Pinned toot

Hello !

I am person behind FreeTube, the private YouTube client for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

I enjoy talking about technology and privacy so my toots will mostly be about those, but there will be a good amount of toots about FreeTube as well.

I'm also looking for more people to follow! Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks to @debian 's €10,000 donation (and not $10,000 as announced a few hours ago), we've just reached the 4th step of our PeerTube fundraising. Many thanks to all those who donated. And it's not too late to contribute : joinpeertube.org/roadmap

I've just updated to v0.9.0. This update fixes some of the issues that come up along with adding back distraction free mode. Check out the full changelog here.

There's been a couple of cases of users experiencing 429 errors in the past day or so. I've written a new blog to go into more details on what this error is and why you may be experiencing it. I also go over some ways to prevent it and our plans for preventing it moving forward. Check it out here.

Here are my thoughts on the recent announcement of Invidious shutting down soon. I also go over what this means for both Invidious and FreeTube in the future. If you have any questions regarding this, please let me know.

Hey all,

It was recently announced that Invidious will be shutting down in September. I don't know for sure what will happen to the project. I'll be making an announcement on what this means for FreeTube as soon as I have time.

If you want a TLDR on my opinion of the , it's a really cool device with a ton of promise to show what a Linux smartphone experience will look like.

The software still has a few ways to go before it can be used as a daily driver but I'm very pleased with the progress that is here.

If you decide to buy a Pinephone, I'd suggest installing for the best experience at this time.

Apologies for the delay! My review is now available! This took me way longer to do than I thought so I hope it's worth the read. I appreciate any feedback you might have. Also willing to answer any questions you might have about the Pinephone that I didn't get to in my review.

Review is here:

Here's a quick preview of my experience. I'm hoping to get a review out sometime this weekend. Assuming I have the free time to get all of my thoughts down. Apologies for the poor quality on the picture.

I've recently been able to get my hands on a from the good people over at @PINE64

Would anyone be interested in a written review? I plan on trying to set this up as a daily driver and will log how close I can get to replacing my other phone. I also plan on attempting to install and will talk a little bit about that experience. I'm open to answering any questions someone might have as well.

I have published an NPM module that allows you to grab channel information from YouTube without any official APIs.

This module will be used within the FreeTube rewrite whenever the local API is being used. It has been separated from FreeTube so that anyone else who may want this functionality can freely use it.

Let me know what you think! I'm open to feedback.
